Welcome To Pebble Lake!

A COMMUNITY AFFAIR

CONGRATULATIONS Pebble Lake...you are now "incorporated" and have a Home Owners Association!

*********SAFETY ALERT:
Keep you car keys separate
from your house keys when
getting your vehicle serviced,
simply because most dealerships,
oil, and tire changing places have
machines that can duplicate keys.
These well known businesses also
have your address. So think smart
and get a separate key ring for
your car keys. §

Kitchen & Garage Safety Tips!

KITCHEN -Never place or store pot holders, plastic utensils, towels and other non-cooking equipment on or near the range because these items can be ignited. Roll up or fasten long loose sleeves with pins or elastic bands while cooking. Do not reach across a range while cooking. Long loose sleeves are more likely to catch on fire than are short sleeves. Long loose sleeves are also more apt to catch on pot handles, overturning pots and pans and cause scalds. Keep constant vigilance on any cooking that is required above the "keep warm" setting.
Know where the "danger" items are -- medicines, toxic bleaches, oven and drain cleaners, paint solvents, polishes, and waxes. Look for items packaged in child-resistant containers. Don't leave them under a sink or in plain view in a garage -- lock them away in a secure place, out of a child's sight and reach

GARAGE -Take extra precautions in storing and using flammable liquids, such as gasoline, paint thinners, etc. They produce invisible explosive vapors that can ignite by a small spark at considerable distances from the flammable substance. Store outside the house.
Basement, garages, and storage areas can contain many tripping hazards and sharp or pointed tools that can make a fall even more hazardous. Keep an operating flashlight handy. Have an electrician install switches at each entrance to a dark area. Death may occur when people swallow such everyday substances as charcoal lighter, paint thinner and remover, antifreeze and turpentine. These poisons should have child-resistant caps, be stored in the original containers with the original labels, and be kept locked up out of sight and reach of children.

****NOTE****

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from  an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse.
For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321
.

The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine.
The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.

This information was recently broadcast on FOX TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

Please pass this along to everyone possible************

ASPARTAME – For the diet soda lovers

If is says Sugar Free on the label – Don’t even think about it! Unfortunately, Aspartame also marketed as NutraSweet, Equal, and Spoonful is found in a lot of diet sodas. When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in Aspartame converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants! The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. MANY PEOPLE WERE BEING DIAGNOSED IN ERROR ALTHOUGH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS IS NOT A DEATH SENTENCE…METANOL TOXICITY IS! Diet Soda is NOT a diet product. It is chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight! These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores fat cells particularly in the hips and thighs. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics because it drives the blood sugar out of control. It can cause birth defects, mental retardation, etc. if taken at the time of conception and during the pregnancy. It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.

Water LiliesGETTING FIT WITH GARDENING

There's nothing like digging, hoeing, and planting to build muscle and lower blood pressure. If you think gardening is for sissies, try toting those big bags of mulch.

While spending a couple of hours in the gym can get to be boring work, the same time spent in the garden will keep you entirely entertained and burn about 340 calories and hour in the process (based on a 150-pound person). That's almost as many calories as an aerobics class. Gardening helps your heart, makes stress fly away, and brings the benefit of connecting you to the earth.

Bee on flowerTREATING BEE STINGS
Bee stings can be extremely dangerous if you are allergic. So if you are and you get stung, go immediately to the hospital.

If you do not have an allergy, then you can treat most bee stings yourself.

Remember, if you are stung you should scrape the stinger out. You can do this using a credit card, the side of a knife blade or the edge of a long fingernail. Never try to pull the stinger straight out.

You can neutralize some of the swelling that occurs because of inflammatory agents in the venom by rubbing a wet aspirin directly on the sting. However, if you can't take aspirin normally, you should not use it for bee stings either.

Taking an antihistamine can ease pain and swelling for adults. For children, cough syrups that contain antihistamines work better.

Extra! Extra! Count on Scammers and Schemers to Follow the News On The Government Rebate Checks

Heres how it works: Scammers claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service or the Social Security Administration call and say they need your information to be able to deposit your rebate directly into your account. They may ask for your checking account number, social security number, or other piece of personal information the kind they can use to commit identity theft.

The IRS does not gather information for rebates by telephone. Nor does it send unsolicited e-mail to taxpayers about tax account matters. Filing a tax return is the only way to apply for a tax refund; there is no separate application form. Similarly, if you get an email out of the blue from someone claiming to be from the IRS that asks you to call a phone number or email back your personal information, don't click on any links. Forward it to phishing@irs.gov, and then delete it. Clicking on a link in an unsolicited email carries risks of spyware, pagejacking, and phishing threats that can lead to the theft of your identity. The only official IRS Web site is located at irs.gov. Visit OnGuardOnline.gov/phishing for more information about phishing scams.

If you get a call from someone who claims to be from the SSA and who asks for your personal information, say youre not interested, and politely hang up. Then call the SSAs toll-free telephone number yourself, 1-800-772-1213, to verify the reason for the contact and the callers identity. The SSA will not send unsolicited email. For more information, visit ssa.gov.

If you think youve been scammed, file a complaint at ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP. If you think your identitys been stolen, visit ftc.gov/idtheft or call 1-877-ID-THEFT.

Trouble Makers Aided by Reverse Look Up Of Phone Numbers
We have all come to think of Google as an indispensable tool, or for that matter any other search engine. You may want to pay close attention here to a trick that can help those that are up to no good.

Technology is great, most times! When someone types a phone number in a search engine a lot can be learned. Our editors want you to see it first hand. Go into Google. Type in your phone number in this format xxx-xxx-xxxx. Then you probably will see your name, address and a map that easily tells someone how to get to your house. If you have your number unlisted in the phone book, you may want to also get off Google.

Here is how it looks: - If you want your name off the index, click on the provided link. It takes about 48 hours

                                 TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period through the pipeline.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance be tween the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.
